The Focused Will
Lu 9:51 ¶ And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,
The Lord Jesus was settled in His mind as to what His life was to achieve: to save His people from their sins. There was nothing else that could satisfy His heart, but to do the will of GOD. Heb 10:9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God… Joh 4:34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
Our Saviour was born for a purpose: Christians, we have been born again for the purpose of GOD.Every believer born again has a place in the ministry of the kingdom
of GOD, for the bible teaches that when the Lord Jesus left, He called HIS OWN SERVANTS ..Matt 25:14. How do we follow in the footsteps of JEsus? How do we live
a life of resolved determination to do the will of GOD?
We must be born again. 1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: … A man of this world, and this flesh, untouched by the Spirit of
GOD, cannot know the things that belongs to GOD. They are spiritually blind and dead. Being born again brings about the awakening of our senses to respond to the Word of GOD. “Ye hath he quickened (made alive) who were dead in trespasses and sins…” Eph 2:1. Being made alive by the Spirit of GOD, causes us to be ready to hear the word of GOD and thereby readying us to do the will of GOD.
We must be set our affections on things above Col 3:1 “ if ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things that are above ..” The things of this world has a strong
attraction to the fleshly nature of our lives, and we need to mortify it, kill it. There is no substitute for a man who wants to follow Christ, to deny Himself, to take up the cross and then to follow Christ. The resolved disciple will not put His heart on the things of this world, but on the things of Christ. He will not deem the pleasures of this world worthy of His time and love, but the things that are invisible. He will set His affections on things above.
We must decide to do what GOD wills: Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? Acts 9:6. These words spoken at the onset of Paul’s salvation, determined the rest of Paul’s
life work. He, made alive after struggling with the Lord, resolved to do as GOD wills. Paul fought a good fight, Paul finished the course, Paul kept the faith.
Christian, what are you going to do with your life? Is your life focused as was our Saviour’s? Are you busy about the things of this world, that the will of GOD is
secondary? As we remember the birth of Christ, may we remember His resolve to do the will of GOD, and follow the example of the Master, and pray “ Lord , what wilt thou have me to do?”
