  1. You have a conversion experience. John 3:3 / Matt 18:3 / Eph2:1 / Gal 2:20

Explanation

Except a man be born again, the Lord Jesus teach, that he cannot see the kingdom of God. After trusting Christ as Saviour, the individual have willingly, understandably and decisively turn away from his old life and now embraces the teaching and the new direction in Christ. This is only made possible by the Holy Spirit of God Matthew 16:16-17  And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. The individual knows that there something has changed. The thinking, heart, soul and life have been converted. It may not be obvious at first but the change will become evident.

2. You have a personal knowledge of the Lord. John 17:3 / 2 Timothy 1:12

Explanation

You know that you know Christ as a Person, not just a belief, or a religion. We know the Lord Jesus as Someone who cares for you and loves you. You will pray and speak with Him in prayer according to the faith that GOD has shown you in the bible.

  1. You believe the gospel. Romans 1:16 / 1 Cor 15:1-4

Explanation

Believe is an action word. When we believe the gospel it means

  • We have heard it
  • We believe it for our eternal salvation
  • We are willing and know that this is the truth of GOD without doubt – We are willing to follow and do whatsoever the gospel tells us to do – Because believe means we believe it enough to do something about it.

Illustration: when James is invited verbally for dinner at 6 pm by his friend David, James will be at the restaurant at 6pm to wait for David, because James believed David and made plans to be at the restaurant at 6 pm.

  1. You continue in the gospel 1 Cor 15:2 / Col 1:23-24

Explanation

We will continue in the spirit of the gospel which means that you will talk of, live by, sing of, and share the gospel, the good news that the Lord Jesus has saved us from sin and that we now want to live a righteous life to please Him. The salvation that have been received is the most important event and gift to us and therefore we will live in it daily.

  1. You love God’s Word. John 8:47 / John 10:26-27

Explanation

Because of your salvation and your new life, the Holy Spirit will then cause you to want to know the word of God: it is a natural result of salvation. When I have a relationship with a person, I will want to know more about the person and it is through what He says that I know Him.

There are some people I know but I do not really have a relationship with them. I am know the President of my country, but if I call him when I am in need, he will not help me because he does not know me and neither I him.

But some people I have a relationship with and I want to pursue the relationship with the person because I know the person in my heart.

  1. You love righteousness 1 John 2:3-4

1 John 2:29  If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.

1 John 3:7  Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. Explanation

After trusting Christ as personal Saviour, the individual, given the righteousness of Christ has a sense of righteousness. Doing right becomes important to the person.

‘He that is practising righteousness is righteous even as He is righteous.’ Though the principle of justification is just beneath the surface, that is not what John is driving at. His point is simple. One who is justified (truly righteous) will be practising righteousness. He has a newnature within, created in righteousness and true holiness. Though he may not always do right, since he has gotten saved, the characteristic of his life is now in that direction. One truly bornagain will tend to become righteous on a day-to-day level even as our Lord is righteous. BH  Carroll

There will be a change in desires. We still love evil things because of our indwelling sinful nature. The devil offers us what we love. The only protection is salvation.

One way you can see if a person loves righteousness is the person’s attitude towards authority. We are all rebellious. But when we are saved, there must be a difference in our attitude towards authority. It may not be a perfect difference, but there must be a difference.  How do we treat our parents at home and at school? What is our testimony at home and school?

  1. You are led by the Spirit Romans 8:9-16

Explanation

Because of the presence of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer, the believer is more sensitive to right and wrong as the Holy Spirit leads the believer in the paths of righteousness, sin and judgment. You will have a sense of wanting to do right and in the heart, you will be  prompted to do right and do things in consistency with the scripture and the will of GOD.  John 8:29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

  1. You will love Christians 1 John 3:10 / 1 John 3:14

Explanation

An individual who have been saved by the blood of the Lord Jesus will love, delight in and want the company of Christians, simply because he is saved. It is not possible to say that one is a Christian but do not love the people of GOD.

  1. You are chastised by God when you sin. Hebrews 12:6-8 / 1 John 5:16 -17 Explanation

A true believer when in sin, will face the chastisement of God. Firstly the conscience, then physical chastisement (Hebrews 12:11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.) and finally chastisement by death (1 John 5:16  If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.) If you are not chastised then you are not saved. Hebrews 12:8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
