Areas of lessons I learnt since leaving the Charismatic Movement

LESSONS FROM MY PAST IN THE CHARISMATIC MOVEMENT.

I learnt many lessons when I was in the Charismatic Movement, about the movement, about myself. The years of deception were between 1987 – 1989, 30 years ago. The following are my heart-felt lessons after reading, studying, learning and understanding the matters from the biblical context. Below are my learning: .

  1. TONGUES HAVE CEASED:
  2. Tongues in the Greek mean other earthly languages (like Hokkien, Malay etc)

Acts 2:7-11  And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

  1. Tongues were a sign for those who are not believers (it is not for believers to seek the tongues experience)

1 Cor 14:22  Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

  1. When the bible is completed, tongues ceased.

1 Corinthians 13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

  • 1 Cor 14 is the last mention of tongues but it was in the context of being misused. After that, there is NO MORE MENTION of tongues in the rest of the NT.
  • After 70 AD, there was NO MORE mention of any tongues in history until 1901
  1. THERE ARE LYING SPIRITS IN THE SO-CALLED HOUSE OF GOD THAT I WAS INVOLVED IN

This is still true today:

  • Many messages preached in the Pentecost and Charismatic churches are not aligned to the bible and therefore based on Isa 8:20 “Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.”
  • Wrong teachings will bring wrong fruit
  1. TELEVISION IS THE SHRINE OF HELL.

This is a quotation from AW Tozer. He  was preaching against the pleasure seeking Americans in the late 1980s.

Television can be used for good or evil. Television is primary for:

  • Information: news, documentation
  • Entertainment: amusement

Issues pertaining to television:

  • Information, news or amusement
  • Redeeming the time
  • Moral influence on behaviour, character

Therefore as an equipment, we can use it for good. But when we are led by the Spirit the use of television, can inform, or use DVDs to glorify GOD.

  1. CHARISMATISM IS A STRONG DELUSION THAT GOD ALLOWS THE PEOPLE WHO WILL NOT FOLLOW THE TRUTH OF THE BIBLE TO BELIEVE. There will be a greater delusion in the 7 years of tribulation.

Those who are in the churches that speak in tongues, using CCM, Christian rock, will never want to listen to the word of GOD, when taught and they will relegate back to their experience.

  1. I WAS SO EASILY SWAYED TO THEIR SIDE (GAL 1:6 – 7)

When I was a young Christian, I did struggle whether I should speak with tongues. But over time, I was swayed and “thought” I spoke with heavenly tongues. I lived in sin but thought I was spiritual outwardly. But the Lord convicted my heart that I was so easily swayed because I was so in my flesh.

Humility, conviction of the truths of Christ is so important. The Lord has since helped me to realise that it is so important to be humble and contrite before GOD.

  1. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS CHRISTIAN ROCK ( JEREMIAH 32:34)

Jeremiah 32:34  But they set their abominations in the house, which is called by my name, to defile it.

I was convicted about using Christian rock which was desecrate God’s house with the world’s music.

  1. I WAS GUILTY OF SHAKING HANDS WITH ECUMENICAL MOVEMENT (ZEPH 1:8 / 2 COR 11:13 – 15)

Zephaniah 1:8  And it shall come to pass in the day of the LORD’S sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king’s children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel.

2 Corinthians 11:13-15 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

  1. I HAVE DESECRATED GOD’S HOLY ACTION BY MY COMPROMISE WITH WORLD’S MUSIC – the fast beat of the contemporary music is Satan’s way to pollute the worship of GOD.

Since then Exodus 32 has been a convicting study on how when we take the things of this world ( Exodus 32:4  And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.) and then said that it is unto the Lord. That is so wrong.

  1. I BECAME LAXED IN HOLINESS.
  2. I WAS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF LYING SPIRITS

2 Chronicles 18:22  Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil against thee.

  1. I WAS LIVING IN SIN

2Ki 17:32 So they feared the LORD, and made unto themselves of the lowest of them priests of the high places, which sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places.

2Ki 17:33 They feared the LORD, and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations whom they carried away from thence.

2Ki 17:34 Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not the LORD, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law and commandment which the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;

2Ki 17:35 With whom the LORD had made a covenant, and charged them, saying, Ye shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them:

2Ki 17:36 But the LORD, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and a stretched out arm, him shall ye fear, and him shall ye worship, and to him shall ye do sacrifice.

2Ki 17:37 And the statutes, and the ordinances, and the law, and the commandment, which he wrote for you, ye shall observe to do for evermore; and ye shall not fear other gods.

2Ki 17:38 And the covenant that I have made with you ye shall not forget; neither shall ye fear other gods.

2Ki 17:39 But the LORD your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.

2Ki 17:40 Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner.

2Ki 17:41 So these nations feared the LORD, and served their graven images, both their children, and their children’s children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day.

Galatians 4:19  My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,

2 Corinthians 5:17  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

GOD’S ATTITUDE TOWARDS ROCK MUSIC IN HIS HOUSE

  1. Rock and roll is born out of the womb of the devil (Wickedness)

This is now an entire study, but the following will suffice.

When Lucifer was in Heaven, he was in charge of the music. When he fell, he created a whole music that is anti-GOD and has infiltrated the church and the results will be seen in the growing generation.

  1. God will not accept a blemished sacrifice ( words of scripture but the music of the world)

Amos 5:21 – 27 I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies. / Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts. / Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols. / But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream. / Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel? / But ye have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves. / Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the LORD, whose name is The God of hosts.

  1. The table of the Lord must be holy

I cannt eat at the table of the world and idols and then pretend to fellowship with God.

  1. God is looking for those who look for the old paths

Jeremiah 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

In 2017, GOD is not merely looking at us turning back to the old ways which are the ways of GOD. We need to go back to the WAY (the Lord Jesus – John 14:6)

“God is not interested for us to come to Him in worship until we have first come to Him in repentance” Amos 5:21 -26

I pray these thoughts may be used by the Lord to help someone come out of the Charismatic and Pentecostal movement.
