Victory Now
The God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
Romans 16:20
The God of peace shall bruise. This is a contradiction because how can a God of peace bruise? Bruising has the idea of hurting. Yet, for our sakes, God bruised His Son. For our sins, He allowed His Son to be chastised and crucified. Yet, He is the Prince of Peace. The Lord God will destroy situations, weapons, people and even principalities that hurt the rest and comfort of His children as they are willing to yield to Him.
The Peace of God rests on His children but Satan intends to disrupt the peace within families, within churches, within nations, by interfering and spreading malicious untruths and evil deeds in those institutions. Notice four lessons regarding victory for our encouragement from this verse:
The victory is ours. “The God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly”. Paul in this verse refers to the ultimate victory God will have over Satan and his weapons and methods in this world. To the church in Rome, the reference could be to the Roman Empire and the spirit behind the empire. From a universal viewpoint, God is still sovereign and still controlling the things that happen in this world. His word cannot be broken and His will cannot be removed.
Personally, God actively works to secure His will in our lives, and no matter what the strengths, or weaknesses, no matter what the trials and temptations, He works to ensure the comfort and progress of every child of God.
The victory is sure. “The God of peace shall…” The word shall reflects a definite event. It is sure without doubt to occur. The God we serve will ensure a victorious end. When the children of Israel faced overwhelming odds against the Egyptians at the Red Sea, the Lord Jehovah crushed the armies of Pharaoh. Moses promised that God SHALL fight for them, and God did.
The victory is soon. “The God of peace shall bruise Satan…shortly.” Many lament and complain that the Christian life is too hard, and that the so-called sufferings are too protracted and long. Here’s an encouragement – God will bruise the Devil shortly. It means to us as believers a short while, in a little time. Christians who complain that the trial is long must consider that God says He is coming quickly, shortly, in a moment of time.
The victory is now. “The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you.” Thanks be to God for the victory we have in Christ Jesus. We do not have to wait for the coming of Christ for victory – it will be a complete worldwide victory at that time, but God promises us victory in this life right now, as we walk in the Spirit so we will fulfil the lust of the flesh. (Gal 5:16)
If we submit ourselves to God, and resist the devil, He will flee from us (James 4:7). We can have victory in Christ because He has already won the victory through His Grace in our lives.
Dear believer, are you experiencing defeat in your Christian life? It is time to realize that victory is yours, in the name, grace, and power of the Lord Jesus Christ. You do not need to dwell in the doldrums of defeat. You do not need to live in the darkness of despair. You can live in the power of the Prince of Peace. May it be so in your lives.
